Core Value of High-Performance Dispersants in Inkjet Industrialization

Dispersing Agent

In the rapidly expanding worlds of digital textile printing and high-end signage, water-based disperse dye inks are becoming the industry standard. Their vibrant colors and eco-friendly profile make them highly attractive, but the journey from raw dye powder to a stable, homogeneous ink is technically demanding.

The primary challenge lies in maintaining the stability of nano-sized particles. How can manufacturers prevent agglomeration that leads to nozzle clogging? How do we ensure batch-to-batch color consistency while avoiding sedimentation during long-term storage? The answer lies in the core value of high-performance dispersants.

I. The "Stringent" Demands of High-Precision Inkjet Printing

Modern inkjet technology demands higher precision, faster speeds, and broader substrate compatibility. This evolution imposes rigorous requirements on water-based disperse dye inks:

  • Nano-scale Particle Size: Formulations often require an extremely narrow particle size distribution, typically with a D90 of less than 200nm.

  • Long-term Stability: Inks must maintain their integrity over time without sedimentation or viscosity increases.

  • Reliable Jetting: To avoid production downtime, inks must offer flawless jetting performance without clogging sensitive printer nozzles.

  • Color Excellence: High-performance systems require outstanding color strength, transparency, and the total elimination of haze or floating color.

II. Steric Hindrance: The Core Mechanism for Stability

For water-based systems with high pigment or dye loading, electrostatic stabilization is often not enough to prevent particles from clumping together. Instead, the most reliable mechanism is steric hindrance (spatial hindrance).

This mechanism utilizes a specific molecular structure to create an "invisible protective umbrella" around each dye particle:

  • Anchoring Groups: One end of the dispersant molecule contains powerful anchoring groups that firmly adsorb onto the dye particle surface.

  • Solvated Tails: The other end consists of long-chain tails that extend into the aqueous phase.

  • Repulsive Force: When dye particles approach each other due to Brownian motion, these tails overlap and generate a strong repulsive force, effectively preventing re-flocculation.

  • This protection remains stable regardless of the system's electrical properties or environmental factors, ensuring more durable ink performance.

III. SailAdditive High-Performance Dispersant Solutions

DongGuan SailAdditive offers a range of professional dispersing additives specifically engineered to meet these industrial inkjet challenges. Our products utilize modified polyurethane and polyphosphate technologies to ensure production efficiency and a high-quality finish.

  1. S-9016 & S-9899: Versatile Stability

These modified polyurethane dispersants are excellent for both water-based and oil-based systems. They are particularly effective for:

  • Reducing Mill-base Viscosity: They lower viscosity during the grinding process to boost production efficiency.

  • Eliminating Defects: These additives effectively eliminate haze, floating color, and color bleeding.

  • Application: Ideal for industrial primers, PU coatings, and high-performance inks.

  1. S-4010: Maximum Pigment Efficiency

Similar to EFKA 4010, this modified polyurethane polymer is engineered to maximize pigment efficiency.

  • Optimized for Fillers: It is specifically optimized for inorganic fillers and pigments like titanium dioxide.

  • Uniform Grind: It ensures a stable, uniform grind while enhancing surface gloss and matte powder orientation.

  1. S-110: Superior Anti-Settling

A high-performance polyphosphate solution (comparable to BYK-110) designed for professional industrial and automotive coating systems.

  • Steric Stabilization: It excels at providing superior anti-settling and anti-sagging properties through spatial hindrance.

  • High Clarity: This technology leads to enhanced transparency and hiding power.

All SailAdditive dispersing agents should be added during the paint or ink mixing stage to ensure optimal distribution. They are non-hazardous for transportation and have a storage life of 24 months when kept in a cool, dry place in airtight containers.
